anatomyphysiologyblog - Extra-ocular Muscles of Eye: their attachment, actions in addition to nervus supply

Objectives:

Describe the attachment of extra-ocular muscles.
Describe the activity as well as nervus provide of extra-ocular muscles.

Extra-ocular muscles of eye
The musculus acting on the oculus ball to gain diverse movements of oculus are called extr-aocular muscles which consists of

Four recti
Two oblique muscles
Superior rectus
Superior oblique
Inferior rectus
Inferior oblique
Medial rectus

Lateral rectus

Recti muscles
Origin – from posterior business office of the reach from a mutual tendinous ring
Insertion – the muscles hold forwards inwards a cone of muscles as well as spread out at the sites of insertion into the sclera of the eyeball.

Oblique Muscles
Superior oblique: arises from the lesser fly of sphenoid os as well as inserts into the sclera behind the equator of eyeball.
Inferior Oblique: arises from orbital surface of maxilla inwards the flooring of the reach as well as inserts into the sclera behind the equator of the eyeball.

Innervations or Nerve provide of extra-ocular muscles
All these muscles are supplied past times oculomotor nerve (Cranial Nerve III) except lateral rectus (by abducent nerve – CN VI) as well as superior rectus (by trochlear nerve – CN IV).

Actions of extra-ocular muscles
Superior rectus –elevates, adducts as well as medially rotates the eyeball
Inferior rectus –depresses, adducts as well as medially rotates the eyeball
Medial rectus – adducts the eyeball
Lateral rectus – abducts the eyeball

Superior oblique – depresses, abducts as well as medially rotate the oculus ball
Inferior oblique – elevates, abducts as well as laterally rotate the eyeball.
