anatomyphysiologyblog - Intrinsic or Deep or Paraspinal Muslces of Back: Brief Outline

What are Paraspinal Muscles or Deep Muscles or Intrinsic Muscles of back?
These are deep or intrinsic dorsum muscles. These muscles cast a prominent volume on each side of the spinal column extending from base of operations of the skull to the sacrum. These muscles consists of many separate, overlapping muscles of dissimilar lengths, attached to the spinous or transverse processes of dissimilar vertebrae.

Together, these muscles act to hold the posture as well as command the movements of vertebral column similar backward bend.

The deep dorsum muscles are grouped according to their human relationship to the surface.

Superficial layer (of deep dorsum muscles)

Splenius muscles

  • thick as well as apartment muscles of the neck,
  • lie on the  side as well as on to a greater extent than human face of neck,
  • arise from the midline as well as extend superolaterally to the cervical vertebra (slpenius cervicis) as well as skull (splenius capitis)

Intermediate layer of deep dorsum muscles

Erector spinae

  • Lies inwards a groove on each side of vertebral column
  • Chief extensor (backward bend) of vertebral column
  • Divides into iii column

                                Iliocostalis – lateral column
                                Longissimus – intermediate column
                                Spinalis – medial column

Each column is divided regionally into iii parts according to its superior attachments (e.g. iliocostalis lumborum, iliocostalis thoracis as well as iliocostalis cervicis; thoracis, cervicis as well as capitis inwards illustration of longissimus as well as spinalis)

Arises through a wide tendon from the posterior business office of iliac crest, posterior human face of sacrum as well as the sacroiliac ligaments, as well as sacral as well as inferior lumbar spinous processes

Deep layer of intrinsic dorsum muscles
Transversosinal musculus group

  • Obliquely disposed deep to the erector spinae
  • Arises from transverse processes of vertebrae as well as popular off to the spinous processes of to a greater extent than superior vertebrae
  • Three types
               The semispinalis is superficial
               The multifidus is deeper
               The rotators are the deepest

Minor deep layer of intrinsic dorsum muscles

Interspinales, intertransversarii as well as levatores costarum are poorly developed inwards the thoracic region
